34-year old, 14-year veteran defenseman Andrew Ference(21) will be finding a new pro hockey home for 2013/2014 as his current team (for another couple of weeks) Boston Bruins has lots of youngsters moving up the ranks and no cap room to re-sign the small but unassumingly strong blue liner.
He was with Boston for seven seasons, starting in 2007, traded from Calgary Flames, and won a Stanley Cup with the team in 2011.
The 5’10” 194 lbs. blue liner was originally a deep Pittsburgh Penguins‘ 8th round pick in the 1997 draft (#208 overall) and spent four years in their system, including 88 in the AHL with affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
He made $2.25M for his last 3-year deal and should be due a raise to upwards of $3.5-$4. for the next few seasons.
