6th year Carolina Hurricanes‘ 6th round pick in the 2005 draft (#192 overall) left wing Nicolas Blanchard(26) signed a two-year, two-way extension with the team through the end of the 2014 season.
He has only played for their AHL affiliates first in Albany and most recently with Charlotte Checkers without an NHL appearance as of yet.
That should change this season as the Hurricanes might be looking to bring the 6’3″ 205 lbs. forward into the big leagues to throw some of that size around to protect some of their scorers.
The 24-year old has skated in 378 regular and postseason AHL games scoring a total of 52 goals and 61 assists and 990 penalty minutes.
He’s definitely more known for his fighting abilities but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him pop 10 in the net if he got his chance at the show for a full year.
