8th year defenseman Jake Newton(4) continues to move along overseas clubs.

He returns to Finland’s Liiga for a 2nd tour, joining KooKoo for 2017/2018.

The very decently sized blue liner played for Sport 2 seasons ago posting 9 goals and 15 assists before shifting to the Czech Extraliga to skate with HK Hradec Kralove in 2015/2016.

For his initial trip back to continue overseas he returned to Italy but went up a level to Serie A with Gherdeina, where he scored a league best for a d-man 24 goals and 52 points.

At 28-years old, the former Anaheim Ducks/Colorado Avalanche prospect could be just getting going and may continue to climb the European hockey ladder.

As a pro he’s played in no less than 7 leagues.

Undrafted 5th year defenseman Jake Newton(17) has played AHL games in each of his three seasons on this side of the pond.

The pretty sizable 6’3″ 200 lbs. offensive-minded blue liner had a real solid showing through 18 games (2 goals, 6 assists) with a very young Bridgeport Sound Tigers‘ team.

Once again though, he splits for Italy, moving it up a notch with Gherdeina of Italy’s top league Serie A.
