Joey-McDonald

Montreal Canadiens‘ undrafted 14th year goaltender Joey McDonald(39) signed a one-year two-way contract on the first day of free agency.

The veteran net minder was quickly dispatched from training camp to affiliate Hamilton Bulldogs, where he appeared in 26 games posting a 10-9-6 record with a 2.77 GAA and a .910 SV%.

He was recalled on numerous occasions but didn’t receive any playing time with the parent club during the 2014/2015 season.

The 6′ 197 lbs. net minder has been in between the pipes for a whopping 326 AHL games and 133 NHL contests; 51 of those as a starter for his two years with New York Islanders, 37 over three seasons for Detroit Red Wings and 33 after being claimed off waivers and signed by Calgary Flames.

He was recently recalled to take part in Stanley Cup Playoff practices but where the 35-year goes next, after the postseason seems fully up in the air.

No doubt he still has lots of ability left in his game to either stay where he is or join another team, but as his long career starts to show signs of wrapping up he would also make one amazing goalie coach.
