Providence College Friars‘ Czech-born right wing Jaroslav Chmelar(28) leaves 2 years of school on the table to sign a nice 3-year NHL entry level deal with draft team (5th round, 2021, #144 overall) New York Rangers.

The big, listed at 6’5″ 220 lbs. forward scored decently over his 2 years at college.

Looks like he did most of his youth hockey at home and in Finland.

The 20-year old is likely ready for his next opportunity, which should start with affiliate Hartford Wolf Pack.

The 6’3″ 195 lbs. blue liner had two solid seasons at Boston College Eagles on transfer from Yale University Bulldogs and put up a college career high 20 assists and 24 points as a senior.

Originally a Philadelphia Flyers‘ 4th round pick in the 2018 draft (#112 overall), the 23-year old from Manhattan Beach, CA went unsigned.

He should fit right in at the AHL level with affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and compete for a spot with the big club.

Through 63 games, he looks to be gaining comfort with 8 assists to his credit and earns a look from the top, skates 20 shifts for 12:28 ice time with 1 block shot and 1 hit dished in a 4-2 Penguins‘ loss.

Mercyhurst University Lakers‘ senior defenseman Cade Townend(4) will take his game for an extra, graduate frame to the newly restarted 2023/2024 Robert Morris University Colonials.

He goes with a college career best 11 assists to his new club.

The 6’1″ 201 lbs. blue liner has been a bit streaky as a goal scorer, striking for 13 in his final, 3rd CCHL season for Carleton Place Canadians and 7 as an Atlantic Hockey junior.

At 23-years old, we expect the Carleton Place, ON native to have another open scoring season.

Tulsa Oilers sign him as he completes his studies and is ready to turn pro.

Drew Bavaro (22)

Northeastern University Huskies‘ junior center captain Justin Hryckowian(29) takes a college best 30 assists and 43 points in 32 games with a +24 rating to a 2-year NHL entry level deal with Dallas Stars.

Undrafted, the 5’10” 194 lbs. forward from L’lle Bizard, QC came down for a senior year at high school before heading off to 2 USHL years of junior hockey.

The 23-year old will likely report to affiliate Texas Stars to get started, but could warrant a look up in the show.

University Of Connecticut Huskies‘ graduate defenseman Harrison Rees(27) signs a 1st pro contract with Fort Wayne Komets and nets a 1st ECHL goal in his debut and has a +1 rating.

The 6’2″ 175 lbs. blue liner from Mississauga, ON wasn’t a huge scorer in college hockey, but was a reliable +23 player.

He took 2 successful OJHL campaigns with North York Rangers to his college commit.

The undrafted 24-year old was likely looking forward to the moment he could lace up a pair of pro game skates for awhile.

Western New England University Golden Bears‘ 2nd year, senior right wing Tanner Coleman(64) looks like he should score goals out there, but is smitten.

Through 7 games this season, the 5’10” 170 lbs. forward has no points.

In 23 games last frame he had 1 goal and 1 assist.

He transferred for his junior year after 1 session of under-use at Rivier University Raiders and before it went to the ill-fated Becker College Hawks.

The 24-year old from Oswego, NY played 1 frame of junior hockey with Boston Jr. Rangers of the EHL, but only came away with 1 goal and 3 assists there.

We still think this kid can somehow connect for points.

He graduates and signs a contract with Elmira River Sharks and, as we thought, gets an assist in his FPHL debut.

Brown University Bears‘ senior captain Luke Krys(2) enters the transport portal and comes out on the other side, maybe a little unsuspectingly hooking up with inner state rival Providence College Friars for 2023/2024.

The 6’2″ 185 lbs. forward had a college best 14 assists and 16 points last season.

He will definitely be more challenged in Hockey East play.

Almost oddly, the Ringefield, CT native only played some juniors during the 2020/2021 campaign, when the ECAC didn’t play and hooked up with Muskegon Lumberjacks for 5 USHL games, while attending school.

We could easily see the 22-year old play himself onto some decent pro teams radar to pick up a contract after he finishes.

And it occurs, he plays a college best 35 games, gets a new high 6 goals and 17 points with a +2 rating and parlays that into a 2-year NHL entry level deal with Dallas Stars that will see him report to affiliate Texas Stars first.

Trinity College Bantams‘ sophomore goaltender Devon Bobak(39) scores 2024 Joe Concannon Award as best D3 player in New England for his spectacular efforts stopping what was a good 24-3-1 record, but 1.20 GAA is mind-blowing with .940 SV%.

He then days later adds the 2023/2024 Sid Watson Award, given to the top voted Division III player.

The very large 6’4″ 190 lbs. net minder from Northwood, OH started slowly from playing youth hockey with Toledo Cherokee up to their USPHL Premier team before leaving for Compuware 18U, where his game would develop and he would move up to Twin City Thunder.

We think it was maybe his playoff performance that caught the eye of Shreveport Mud Bugs, who signed him and watched him embark on an NAHL 27-11-4 record with a 2.09 GAA and .921 SV%.

It would be fire-able if NHL scouts didn’t have this one on their radar for a development camp invite and D1 teams should be leaning in, asking questions.

We wait, we watch as he looks to win a title 1st.

Long Island University Sharks‘ senior transfer from his freshman year at University Of Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves , left wing Zack Nazzarett(11) turns pro after graduating the independent college schedule the team plays with Fayetteville Marksmen.

The small 5’8″ 165 lbs. forward had a new college best 9 assists and tied his freshman points mark at 11.

In 2 SPHL games, he has his 1st assist.

The Cheektowaga, NY 23-year old native will likely do well in this league and could very well play himself up, if he sticks with it.
