8th year right wing Sean Backman(16) has decided over 500 regular season and playoff games in the AHL through 7 seasons is quite enough and will try the ice overseas signing with Eisbaren Berlin of DEL for 2017/2018.

The small forward that posted career high 21 goals and 34 assists for 54 points only a couple of seasons ago in his initial run with Ontario Reign and has definitely been able to connect with the score sheet through four years at Yale University and in the pros.

He also managed to be a part of the storybook Manchester Monarchs that went on an impressive postseason run to the 2015 Calder Cup.

His 5 goals and 12 assists were a team 5th best (on a stacked squad) en route to the title.

The 31-year old only ever signed a few one year NHL deals with Dallas Stars as a rookie and New York Islanders as a 2nd and 3rd year player, so has been a trooper in the minor league.

We have little doubt he’ll continue to put up big stats in his new surroundings.

Sean Backman(16) New York Islanders

New York Islanders‘ qualified and re-signed undrafted, 3rd year right wing Sean Backman(16) for another one-year, two-way deal.

The 5’8″ 165 lbs. forward skated in 66 AHL games last season with Bridgeport Sound Tigers putting up 7 goals and 11 assists, but was a rather terrible -11 on what was a fairly strong team.

He put up better numbers in his rookie campaign with Texas Stars, who were also a good team with a winning record.

The 26-year old was born only 30 minutes up the road in Connecticut and went to college about equal distance away from his current arena. Definitely must be nice to play his pro hockey so close to home and where he went to school but we’re sure the ultimate goal would be to be skating a little further south.

He has definitely shown the ability to find his way onto the scoresheet and digs for every second he’s on the ice.
