Brent SopelEnduring 17th year defenseman Brent Sopel(55) has not appeared in an AHL game since 1999-2000 with Syracuse Crunch, then affiliate of Vancouver Canucks.

He was originally a ‘Nucks 6th round pick in the 1995 draft (#144 overall) and last skated in the minors with the old Kansas City Blades in the last year of the IHL. His stint was a short 4-game stay as this would be his first complete season in the show.

The 37-year old has skated an absolutely phenomenal 659 NHL games and was a key member of the 2010 Stanley Cup win with Chicago Blackhawks.

Only one season removed hockey’s biggest prize he would disappear for three years to the KHL.

Returning to North America to be play closer to home, he entered training camp on an invite with Chicago Wolves and signed a one-year dealĀ  as the 2014/2015 season started.

The 6’1″ 201 lbs. blue liner is already contributing nicely with 7 assists in 21 games and a +2 rating, plus is the senior member of his squad so his vast knowledge and leadership both on and off the ice is priceless.

He recently appeared in his 1000 pro game as his career continues and still eyes a return to the highest league of hockey.

Tyler Kennedy9th year veteran right wing Tyler Kennedy(8) was reassigned by San Jose Sharks to their farm team Worcester Sharks on a long-term conditioning loan after suffering a nagging upper body injury early in training camp.

He last played in the AHL in 2007 with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Originally a Pittsburgh Penguins‘ 4th round pick in the 2004 draft (#99 overall) he spent 7 years with the team posting career highs with 21 goals and 24 assists through 80 appearances in 2010-2011. He was a pretty nice playoff contributor, helping them to a Stanley Cup Championship in 2009.

The 5’11” 185 lbs. forward has skated 439 NHL games scoring 80 goals and 105 assists with a +22 rating.

His totals in the past pair of campaigns have faltered though and he was given a fairly lucrative two-year deal wooing him away quickly from his first turn as an unrestricted free agent.

He managed only 4 tallies and 13 helpers with a -10 plus/minus in 67 contests last season.

The 28-year old may be finding himself a bit on the cusp as to where he will fit in best unless he starts stepping it up quickly.

Matt Read(10)

Undrafted rookie forward Matt Read(10) will be in the lineup when Philadelphia Flyers open their 2011/2012 season Thursday night vs. the Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins at TD Garden and he will be one to watch. He’s odds on favorite to be the first Flyers player to put the puck in the net to start the season and without a doubt this 25-year old kid is a Calder Trophy favorite straight out of the gate.

Seems like the Flyers staff didn’t get the news because he’s on their roster list but there’s no photo on his page yet.

Last season after finishing up with his college team, he joined Adirondack Phantoms for 11 games and tossed in 7 goals to go along with 6 assists for 13 points.

He’s the real deal.

Game on.
